Sheri Schumacher’s creative path was informed by the multi-cultural experiences of her childhood. Design education began at an early age with exposure to art, architecture, and diverse cultures when living in Europe and Washington DC. Adapting to new cultures and environs as a child required acute perception, resilience, and placemaking skills which continue to influence her creative work. Formal education includes a BID in Interior Design, School of Architecture Auburn University, AL, MFA in Design, Cranbrook Academy of Art, MI, and study at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Canada. Teaching design in the School of Architecture at Auburn University for 30 years significantly informed her creative practice as a designer and artist. Presently she is Associate Professor Emerita and works full time in her design studio located in Auburn, AL.

Recent solo and group exhibitions of textiles include the Wiregrass Museum of Art, Montgomery Museum of Fine Art, and Kyoto International Community House, Japan. Work held in collections includes the Gulf State Park, AL, and private residences located in AL and TX. Her work is represented by the Signature Gallery in Atlanta, GA. Awards include the Alabama State Council on the Arts Community Arts Grant and Design Fellowships.
