Michié Mooney

“As a long time Decatur native, I love Decatur’s rich history and surrounding wildlife. I’m most inspired by nature with its ever-changing colors, texture and light.”

Michié Mooney’s passion for art started early on. She spent her early childhood in Arizona and took Saturday art classes taught by nuns at the nearby Catholic School. Throughout school she took every art class available. Her creativity shifted into a successful business when she began designing and illustrating children’s sewing patterns. During this time of her career, she also taught sewing classes and wrote for several sewing publications. After 25 years, she was eager to begin pursuing fine art again.

She stepped back into art by joining a monthly art class, which introduced her to oil painting. While intimidating at first, oils eventually became her favorite medium to work in. She also works with watercolors and continues trying other mediums and techniques. Mooney has participated in several local art shows throughout North Alabama.
