Hal Cronkite

Hal Cronkite grew up in the southwest. Texas and Oklahoma were two places he called home early in his life. He received a B.S. in mathematics from Oklahoma State University in 1961 and a M.A. in mathematics from the University of Alabama, Huntsville (UAH) in 1968. He worked in Aerospace as a software engineer until retiring in 1999. Since retiring he has focused his energy on learning the art form of oil painting, through UAH classes and several workshops.

“The first aim of any of my paintings is to make something visually pleasing… anything else I may achieve in a piece I try to make subordinate to this. I try to avoid superfluous symbolism. It seems to me that there is enough substance in the world I perceive to generally make symbolism unnecessary. But, in art, no rule is hard and fast.” – Hal Cronkite
