Nadene Mairesse was born in Los Angeles, California. At seven her family moved to England where she attended English boarding school. Sewing, knitting, mending, and darning were incorporated into daily life, as well as extensive playtime in the surrounding fields, woods, and hills. Summers were spent back in California, in the small mountain town Idyllwild. Here, professional artists and musicians gathered at the Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts to teach workshops, hone their skills, and mentor young artists. These childhood experiences form the foundation for her creative work. Her formal education includes a BA in French Literature, UCLA, Los Angeles CA, and B.Arch. and B.Int.Arch. Auburn University, Auburn, AL.

Her professional work includes 15 years as a clothing designer in Los Angeles, CA, and 3 years of architectural design and community development on the Mississippi Gulf Coast at the Gulf Coast Community Design Studio, a research arm of Mississippi State University. In 2013 she moved to Florence, Alabama, and founded her textile and garment design company Idyllwilde. Still living in Florence, she currently works as Program Coordinator for the Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts, while continuing her design and artwork.
