Connections: The Arthouse Group

There are many connections that bond people, places and things to each other and the world around us. There are tangible connections we make through physical touch, like hugs or handshakes. Infrastructure such as roads, bridges, powerlines, and phonelines connect us geographically or give us the ability to communicate with each other from great distances. Links can connect the past to the present through genetics and ancestral stories. Metaphorical bonds, like common interests, link people and bring them together. This exhibit focuses on the different forms connection can take and how each artist interprets them. Connections are an important part of what makes us human and the pieces in this exhibit encompass and embrace that idea.

The Arthouse Group artists found each other through their connection to the Carnegie Visual Arts Center and their love of creating art. What started out as a group of friends meeting and learning from each other grew and evolved into The Arthouse Group. The strong ties that link the Arthouse Group to the Carnegie Visual Arts Center became the inspiration for the theme of this exhibit. Founded in 2023, T.A.G. consists of 10 north Alabama artists. They have a annual show on Grant Street in Decatur, AL. The members of the Arthouse Group include Laura Grace Clark, Tammie Clark, Jessica Emrick, Marsha Ercegovic, Rickie Higgins, Michael Manly, Michié Mooney, Jennifer Mumby, Mary H Reed, and Rebecca Sower.
